TO MEET AGAIN, SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR
by Ann McKee

The twinkling ivories resounded
a lonely tune of yesteryear.
The silent guests sat confounding
to hear what once was theirs.
Miss Julia arose slowly glowing,
her vision of loveliness appeared.
Pale, too pale yet stunning, with
eyes of beauty, unsightly to peer.
Black hair hanging long and silky,
a sweetened face, reflecting the fear.
Turning her voice to the waiting,
she sang again for their ears.
Her low whispery voice echoing,
enchanting, and calming their fears.
Her tragic death so grueling,
leaving them with miseries of tears.
Memories of horrors and bespatterings,
too eerie and ghastly to hear.
She sings a haunting tune endearing,
a lost love, troubling, soul searing.
The guests condoled and rescinded,
the violation of her ravaged undoing.
An unspoken decision descended,
to meet again, same time, next year.
